    In Israel Auslandssemester

For the experimental film course we got the assignment ‘homemade version of a masterpiece’. I chose the movie ‘À bout de souffle’ from Jean Luc Godard (Ge: Außer Atem, En: Breathless). The first full length movie of Godard, released in 1961, is supposed to be an important an early work of the nouvelle vague. Jean Paul Belmondo plays a small gangster (Michel Poiccard) who is on the run of the police because he shot an officer. The whole movie is made with 16mm handcamera and breaks many common cinematic rules llike crossing the line or continuity. The scene I ‘remade’ shows Michel visiting an old girlfriend because he needs money. My old digital8 camara did a suitable job again. It was a more or less spontanious shooting, i liked to imitate the style of Goddard and see whats happening.
Special thanks to Petra Hajduchova from czech and Jonathan Liebermann from france. We made the shooting one evening in my appartment. My flatmate Yaels room looks perplexing simillar to the original movies location.
Some days before we played pantomime, Petra and Joe were amazing in explaining song and movietitles with acting, thats why I asked them to join my project. I’m very glad about them!

Here’s the original movie, the scene starts at ~7min but you should not miss the rest of it.
